On behalf of the management, its 200 front line workers, and the Board of Trustees, Mary Johnston Hospital (MJH) would like to express its deepest gratitude to the Honorable Presidential Spokesperson, Secretary Herminio López Roque or Secretary Harry Roque for the Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and Test Kits he extended to the hospital. MARAMING SALAMAT PO. MJH is truly blessed to receive support from the good Secretary.

As of May 27, 2020, the City of Manila has a total of 1,301 confirmed cases, according to the data released by the Manila Public Information Office. Of these confirmed cases, a total of 331 cases (229 active cases, 79 recovered, and 23 death) are in Tondo, District 1, where MJH is located. With the city’s 1,815 suspect cases, the highest of which can be found in Tondo, District 1 at 451 suspect cases or 25% of the city’s total. Given these numbers, MJH will continue to endure risk and may need more sustainable support to thrive the battle against the pandemic COVID-19 disease. MJH prays that the national government and its officials will continue to accompany and support hospital institutions until such time a vaccine is discovered.

From March 16 to May 19, 2020, the MJH Emergency Room was able to examine a total of 871 patients for possible coronavirus infection and 527 of these patients were classified as SUSPECT or patients that have signs and symptoms BUT WERE NOT TESTED for COVID-19. Also, 344 patients were classified as PROBABLE or those who exhibit signs and symptoms AND WERE TESTED FOR COVID-19, and 46 patients were classified as a CONFIRMED or laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19.

Sec Harry Roque is an icon in government service and in the field of law. He is a known human rights lawyer. He handled many celebrated cases such as the Ampatuan massacre in 2009 where he represents the victims’ families, the transgender case of Jennifer Laude, and the murder of environmentalist Gerry Ortega. He joined the 17th Congress as a representative of the KABAYAN Partylist and principally authored the Universal Healthcare Law in the House of Representatives before taking his role as Presidential Spokesperson of the Duterte Administration from October 2017 until October 2018. He was re-appointed in the same position in April this year. The good Secretary is a member of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines.
